Welcome to the New AZIndex Website!

Welcome to the new home of AZIndex, where you can learn more than you could possibly want to know about using the AZIndex plugin.

The site is organized into several sections to help you navigate your way to the information you’re looking for:

  • First, there’s the new AZIndex Blog, where you are now.  I will be posting updates, announcements, and hints and tips about AZIndex here, along with other items of interest to WordPress bloggers.  I already have a few very useful hints and tips waiting in the wings.  Just click on the site’s title at the top of the page to get back here at any time.
  • Next there is the main AZIndex section which provides you with an overview of the plugin and what it can do, and where you subscribe to the email announcements list, or report feedback on your experiences, good or bad, with the plugin.
  • There is the Gallery, containing various live examples the types of index you can create with AZIndex.
  • Then, if you are just getting started with AZIndex, you can let the Tutorial help you up and running.  Every page has another live example of an index created by the plugin.
  • But if you are an experienced user and want to dive right in, go ahead.  You can always consult the Reference Section if you get stuck, or want to learn all about the more advanced features AZIndex has to offer.

If you want to keep up with all the latest developments with the plugin, feel free to subscribe to the RSS feeds (top right) or the Announcements mailing list.  Otherwise, have a look around.  If you have any suggestions on how to make the site better, just let me know on the feedback page or via email.

The site and the plug are both works in progress.  I will continue to update the site as the plugin evolves and as time allows.

Finally, if you have made AZIndex an integral part of your blog, and especially if you are blogging for profit or as part of your employment, please consider clicking on the Donate button on the right of this page and expressing your support and appreciation for the many hours of work that have gone into creating this plugin.

    Hi!
I have been having a bit of difficulty figuring out if I need to publish a post or a page to get my post to show on the index. Yes, I am new to WP. Please help me Mike!
I love this plugin and would love to see it refined a bit more for the new WordPress versions out, although it works perfectly with my WP.
This page and all about the plugin seem to have been abandoned by you. Please say that isn’t true!
Such a simple yet brilliant and oh so needed plugin!

  • Hi Gregg,Thanks for your questions. In fndniig the answers, I actually learned something about CSS today! So, taking the bullet question first, the answer is that you’ll have to modify your theme’s stylesheet and customize the AZIndex CSS, but it’s not difficult. The problem is that you have the following entry in your theme’s stylesheet:#content .post ul li { list-style-type: disc !important;}What I didn’t know about CSS was that if you stick !important on the end of a line, the style will be used even if you try to override it later (which is what AZIndex tries to do, but fails). So the first thing to do is remove !important from that line so that it now looks like:#content .post ul li { list-style-type: disc;}Note: if you will never need bullets in your lists in your blog’s contents then you can remove the whole line and you will have fixed the problem, but if you want to keep bullets in your other lists, then follow the rest of the instructions here.BTW: To edit the theme by going to Design >> Theme Editor and edit the theme’s stylesheet (usually called stylesheet.css or styles.css). I don’t think that removing the !important tag will affect the appearance of rest of your blog. Now if you check your index, you will still probably see the disc markers on your items (in FireFox anyway). I tried a number of different CSS tweaks to the index’s CSS, but only one of them seems to work. Edit the index settings and select the Use customized stylesheets for the index option. Now scroll down to the stylesheet (make sure you select the correct one for the type of index you have or just make the same change in both) and add the following line to the CSS: #content .post .azindex ul li {list-style:none}(Important: Do not remove any of the other lines!) That should turn off those pesky bullets. I’ll continue to look out for a way to set up the default index to not have bullets even if the theme sets them for all lists, but I’m not sure I will be able to come up with one. (Sounds like a good topic for an FAQ though!).I will post another comment shortly on your other question.
